Privacy policy

We collect your registration, phone number and a description of your van so we can value it and call you with an offer. We do not sell or share your details with other buyers, brokers or lead generators. Photos you upload are stored privately, are never published, and are deleted on request or automatically once we no longer need them.
Who we are
REPLACE_LEGAL_COMPANY_NAME (trading as VanBuyers), company number REPLACE_COMPANY_NUMBER, registered at REPLACE_STREET, REPLACE_TOWN, REPLACE_POSTCODE, is the data controller for the information described here. We are registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office under reference REPLACE_ICO_REGISTRATION_NUMBER.
Questions, or want your data deleted? Email REPLACE_EMAIL or call REPLACE_PHONE.
What we collect
- Your van’s registration. Used to look up the vehicle and to identify your enquiry.
- Your phone number. Used to call or text you about your van. This is the only contact detail the form asks for.
- What you tell us about the van — mileage, mechanical and bodywork condition, and the figure you are hoping for.
- The postcode where the van is. Used to plan a free collection. We ask for the postcode only, never your full address, and we don’t need your address unless you accept an offer.
- Photos you choose to upload. Optional. Please avoid including people, house numbers or other personal detail in the frame.
- Technical data — your IP address and request headers, used to rate-limit the form and block automated abuse. IP addresses are hashed before being stored for that purpose. We also record how long the form was open and whether an automated-submission check was triggered, so we can tell genuine enquiries from bot traffic.
- Analytics data, only if you accept cookies. See below.
What we deliberately do not collect
The form does not ask for your name, address, email address, date of birth or any financial detail, and we never ask for payment information on this website. We only need those things once you have accepted an offer, and we take them directly, not through this form.
Why we can use it (lawful basis)
- Steps prior to entering a contract — valuing your van and making you an offer, because you asked us to.
- Legitimate interests — protecting the site from spam and abuse, and keeping records of vehicles we have bought.
- Consent — analytics and advertising cookies, which stay switched off until you accept them.
- Legal obligation — records we are required to keep about vehicle purchases and identity checks.
Where your enquiry goes
Your enquiry is passed straight to the workflow tool that alerts the person who calls you. We do not keep our own copy of it. This website holds no customer database — deliberately, because a database of phone numbers and vehicle details is a thing that can be breached, and not having one is the strongest protection available.
The only exception is photographs, which have to be stored somewhere in order to be looked at. They are held privately and deleted on the schedule below.
Vehicle lookups
When you enter a registration we send it to the DVLA Vehicle Enquiry Service and the DVSA MOT History API to retrieve public vehicle records — make, model, colour, fuel type, MOT status and recorded mileage. We send only the registration. We do not send your phone number or anything else about you to either service.
Who we share it with
We use a small number of processors, and no one else:
- Cloudflare — hosting, security and storage for uploaded photos. Data is stored in Cloudflare’s network.
- Make.com — the workflow tool that routes your enquiry to the person who calls you.
- Google (Tag Manager / Analytics / Ads) — only if you accept cookies, and only ever with anonymous usage data. We do not put your registration or phone number into any analytics tag.
We do not sell your data. We do not pass your details to other van buyers, dealers, brokers, insurers or lead-generation companies. If you sell us the van we will notify DVLA of the change of keeper, as we are legally required to.
How your photos are protected
Uploaded photos go into private storage that is not reachable from the public internet. There is no public folder and no browsable index. Access happens only through individually signed links that expire, which are shared solely with the person handling your enquiry. Files are validated on upload and stored under randomly generated names, so nothing can be guessed or enumerated.
How long we keep it
- Enquiries that don’t lead to a sale — held in our workflow tool for up to 12 months, then deleted. This website itself keeps no copy.
- Uploaded photos — deleted automatically 90 days after upload if we haven’t bought the van.
- Vans we buy — kept for six years, because HMRC and vehicle trading rules require it.
- Abuse-prevention records — hashed IP counters expire within minutes.
Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of your data, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, object to how we use it, or ask us to restrict it. Email REPLACE_EMAIL and we will respond within one month. Deleting an enquiry is a single request and we will not make you justify it.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk, or by calling 0303 123 1113.
Cookies
The site sets no analytics or advertising cookies until you accept them. Non-essential storage is switched off by default and stays off if you choose Reject. We store your choice locally in your browser so we don’t keep asking.
If you accept, we use Google Tag Manager to load Google Analytics and advertising tags, which measure how people find the site and whether our adverts work. You can change your mind by clearing your browser storage for this site.
Marketing
We contact you about the van you asked us to value. We do not add you to a marketing list off the back of a valuation request, and we do not pass your number to anyone who will.
Changes
If we change how we handle your data we will update this page and the date at the top of it.
